About
About this site
The Label Room is a new, independent information site launched in October 2026. It publishes sourced reference guides on vintage clothing and lingerie: reading and dating labels, construction clues, vintage sizing, fabric care and the vocabulary of the vintage trade.
Not the former shop
This domain previously belonged to a vintage-fashion shop. This site is not connected to that shop, to its owners or to the previous owner of the domain, and it does not continue the shop's business, listings or blog. It is also not affiliated with Victoria's Secret or any other brand mentioned in the guides; brand names are used only to describe garments factually.
Visitors arriving from older links to the “Gold Label edit” will find a new, sourced guide at that address: reading the label.
How the guides are written
- Facts and dates come from sources we opened and read: university archives (such as Cornell's Kheel Center, home of the ILGWU records), museum conservation departments (the Smithsonian and the Canadian Conservation Institute), Federal Trade Commission labeling guidance, encyclopedia entries and established collector resources such as the Vintage Fashion Guild.
- Every guide lists its sources at the bottom.
- Dates drawn from labels are approximate. Where sources disagree or rely on collector observation, the guide says so.
What you won't find here
Nothing for sale, no appraisals, no advertising, no affiliate links, no forms and no product photos. For valuable or fragile pieces, consult a professional textile conservator or appraiser.
